Monaghan Harps Lotto: The numbers for last Sunday's draw were 7, 20, 25 and 29. Jackpot of €1,300 not won. The four €40 lucky-dip prize winners were: Dermot Coyle c/o himself; Shane McCaughey c/o Matt McCaughey; Joe Finlay c/o himself; and Daragh & Kelly Croarkin c/o Sheila Treanor. The sellers' prize of €20 was won by Neill McGinn. Jackpot for Sunday, June 27 is €1,400. The club is asking members willing and financially able to contribute through our lotto towards club maintenance and running expenses. This can be done by two options: set up a standing order to our club lotto via quarterly or annual payments or using our new club app by downloading 'ClubZap' on your phone, registering as a Monaghan Harps GAA Club member and buying club lotto in bulk or on a weekly basis. Anyone interested can contact either Rose Donnelly (086 0825782); Maria McKenna (086 1057725) or Adrian Dalton (087 7859582). Thanks to everyone for their continued support for our lotto, which plays an integral part for the club. Please note that the cut-off point for ClubZap each week is 6pm on Sunday, while physical tickets should be with the lotto committee by 9pm.

Seniors: We begin our 2021 Senior Football League campaign with a home game against Latton this Sunday at 3pm. Good luck to everyone involved.

Reserves: In another busy weekend for our reserve teams, we hosted Éire Óg in the RFL Division 1B on Saturday. After an even start to the game, we moved ahead, with our half-back and half-forward lines of Oisín Fagan, Conn O'Hanlon, Niall Hahessy, Terence McDonald, Michael Galligan, Niall Greenan all contributing scores. Goals in the second quarter by Luke Coyle and Terence gave us a healthy lead at half-time and although scores were harder earned after the restart, points from Oisín, Michael and Evan Doherty helped secure a 2-11 to 1-8 win.

Team and scorers: Dylan McAree; Andrew Lyden, John Mulligan, Killian Conlon; Oisín Fagan (0-2), Conn O'Hanlon (0-1), Niall Hahessy (0-2); Dylan McKenna, Liam Conway; Terence McDonald (1-1), Michael Galligan (0-3), Niall Greenan (Capt., 0-1); Colm Shalvey; Evan Doherty (0-1), Luke Coyle (1-0).

Subs used: Nathan O'Donoghue, Jake Power, Séadh Deeney, Anthony Croarkin.

A much-changed Division Three side travelled to Rockcorry on Sunday. We trailed by just a point at half-time (1-8 to 1-7), with Dessie McGarry rolling back the years to fire to the net and Nathan O'Donoghue also among our scorers and although Rock pulled away after the restart, a cracking goal by Terence McDonald had us within touching distance entering the final quarter. We tired in the closing stages, however, as Rockcorry secured the win of a scoreline of 2-17 to 2-9.

Team and scorers: James Keelaghan; Conor Devlin, Killian Conlon; Séadh Deeney, Terence McDonald (1-1), Jake Power; Seán Conway, Anthony Croarkin; Nathan O'Donoghue (0-3), Shay Cooney (0-2f), Colm Shalvey (0-1); Andrew Lyden; Dessie McGarry (1-2).

Sub used: Paddy Kelly.

We are away to Castleblayney in Division 1B on Friday week (July 2). Our next Division Three game is at home to Killeevan on Sunday week (July 4).

We wish John Lowry a speedy recovery after his injury from the Division Three opener v Tyholland.

U-19: Our U-19s begin their Division One league with a home game against Carrickmacross next Wednesday (June 30).

U-15: Our U-15 Division Five team continued their strong start to the league campaign with a high-scoring win away to Clontibret last Friday (7-8 to 1-13), while the Division One lads had a bye. Our Division One team are back in action tomorrow (Thursday) away to Scotstown, while the Division Five league continues with another away game against Castleblayney on Friday. Both games throw in at 7.30pm.

U-13: The U-13 Football Leagues continued last weekend, although there was a late postponement of Saturday's Division Two game due to the unavailability of a referee. That game at home to Tyholland has been rescheduled for this Saturday at 1.30pm. The Division Six boys competed well in two games in the space of a few days against Corduff and Carrickmacross; their next fixture is away to Magheracloone on Saturday week (July 3). Thanks to Gerry Lynch in Dolan's Pharmacy for kindly sponsoring a medical bag for our U-13 footballers!

U-11: The Liam Stirrat Development League for U-11s continues on Saturday with games against Carrickmacross (away) and Latton (home).

Saturday-morning coaching: Our Saturday-morning coaching has resumed after a long wait, with great numbers of our youngest juvenile players enjoying the return over recent weeks. We ask all parents to wear a mask where appropriate and to practice social distancing. We would also ask parents to go to the stand during training and not to congregate on the pitch or around the gate. We want to ensure that Monaghan Harps is a safe (Covid-free) environment and your co-operation is fully appreciated. Thanks to everyone involved.

Please contact any committee member if you are interested in getting involved.

Monaghan GAA Golf Classic: This year's McAree Engineering Monaghan GAA Golf Classic takes place this weekend, June 25 and 26, in Rossmore Golf Club.

You can get involved by downloading 'ClubZap' on your phone and registering as a Monaghan Harps GAA Club member.

Hurling:

Juveniles: Well done to our U-9s, who travelled to Inniskeen for a blitz last week- the lads won one match and drew two. Congratulations to the team with many of them making their hurling debuts: Senan McDonnell, Marcus Connolly, Caileán & Daragh Clerkin, Oisín & Eoin Finlay, Liam & Eoin McCooey, Eoin O'Hanlon, Nathan McQuillan, Chulainn Rankin. It was a wonderful display of hurling and particularly special to see three sets of brothers representing the Harps! Many thanks to Éanna and Adrian for looking after the team and to all the parents for their efforts.

We want to say a big thank you to all of our juvenile coaches who have been travelling to schools around the town and further afield. We hope that it has been an enjoyable experience for all involved!

Juvenile training continued on Sunday with lovely weather and some lovely hurling. Our U-13s were able to recover from the disappointment of a cancelled match in the Táin Óg league and they put in a great effort at training. We had two hurlers of the week with the awards going to Oisín and Adam. Well done lads!

Thank you: For anyone who has been following our social media recently, you may have noticed that we have been picking a Hurler of the Week from each juvenile training session. We wanted to make it a special reward for our young hurlers and give them something to work towards. We have achieved this with the help of a local business and valued club member: 'Elite DJs'. Elite DJs (a multi-award-winning business and highly renowned wedding entertainment services) have kindly sponsored a new 'Hurler of the Week' sign, which we have erected at the side entrance to the main pitch. Check out our social media for updates. A big thank you to Elite DJs for their generosity and their support for underage hurling in the club!

Seniors

The Mick Hannon Development Hurling League continued last Thursday with an away fixture v Inniskeen. We had another slow start to the match with Inniskeen getting a few early frees before Maurice settled the Harps with a few frees in response. The Harps half-back line and midfield battled valiantly for the remainder of the first half, but Inniskeen continued to profit from some excellent fielding and some soft frees. We found ourselves trailing at half-time on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-4. The Harps began the second half much brighter and dragged ourselves back into the game. One or two changes brought much-needed energy to the attacking play and Maurice tapped over another few frees to cut the deficit. However, Inniskeen scored a fortuitous goal to knock back any hopes of a Harps comeback ahead of a scrappy finish. Final score: Harps 0-10 Inniskeen 1-17.

Harps team: Mike Connell; Conor Devlin, Seamus McLoughlin, Ado Connell; Tommy Croarkin, Jack Lee, John Treanor; Conor Forde, Brendan McQuaid (0-1); Peter Clendenning, Cillian Sherry, Maurice McKenna (0-8); Alan Lee, Ray Lee, Conor O'Neill.

Subs used: Dylan McAree, Lee Treanor, Aron Nutley, Seán Conway (0-1), Shane Smyth.

Congratulations to Mike Connell who made his club debut in the match.

Malin2Mizen- Cycle for Roger: Ciaran McQuaid, current senior player, and his cycling team are setting out on a charity cycle to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. Roger McQuaid was a passionate supporter of the hurling club and he always motivated Ciaran and Brendan to push themselves on the field. He was also a dedicated volunteer to the Monaghan Harps Ladies Club. The Irish Cancer Society provided great support to the McQuaid family during their father's battle with cancer and we are asking for anyone who can to make some form of donation to the fundraiser. You can follow Ciaran's training regime on Instagram and find the link for donating at 'Malin2Mizen - Cycle for Roger'.
