Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh: All club activity was postponed between Saturday, July 17 and Thursday, July 21 as we said a sad goodbye to our dear friend, senior player and county U-20 captain Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh. Monaghan Harps GAA Club have received numerous messages and emails from sports clubs within the county and throughout the country and we had many visitors to Gavan Duffy Park to sign books of condolence. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who helped give Ógie a fitting send-off and to every individual and club who sent condolences. We observed minute's silences/rounds of applause in Ógie's memory at club games throughout the last week, with thanks to our opposing clubs at all levels. We hope the outpouring of support can provide some small solace to the Ó Dufaigh family. It is important that we continue to take time to talk to and support each other in the weeks and months ahead.

Seniors: We returned to action in the SFL on Tuesday night (thanks to Clontibret and the county board for agreeing to postpone this game from the previous Friday). Our team showed two changes from the drawn game in Truagh, featuring a first SFL start for Nathan Lavery and a first appearance of 2021 for Éimhín Morahan, who was on target along with Michael Galligan and Dean Fanning in a frustrating first half that ended with Clontibret leading by 2-4 to 0-4. The second half followed a similar pattern, as we had our fair share of possession, but could only manage points from Dean Fanning, Éimhín, Gary White and Lochlainn Power, while Clontibret hit another brace of goals to secure the win on a scoreline of 4-7 to 0-9.

Team and scorers: Conor Callan; Thomas Croarkin, Conn O'Hanlon, Kevin Loughran; Nathan Lavery, Aodhán Óg McAnespie (Capt.), Nicholas Scott; Neil McAdam, Dylan McKenna; Michael Galligan (0-1f), Éimhín Morahan (0-2, 1f), Shane McMahon; Oisín Fagan; Dean Fanning (0-4, 2f), Conor McCrystal.

A slow start saw us fall four points down as Ballybay hit the net early on, but Michael Galligan and Nathan Lavery got us on the scoreboard, with Michael adding a well-taken goal to draw us level by half-time at 1-5 apiece. Ballybay struck first again in the second half, but points from Niall Hahessy, Evan Doherty, Lochlainn Power, Shane Hannon and Michael saw us push on to win by 1-11 to 1-7.

U-19: We hosted Emyvale in a rescheduled U-19 FL Division One game on Monday. We got off to a flying start to this one, with 1-1 by Shay Cooney and points from Eoghan McGinnity and Kevin Moran, but Emyvale responded to lead by two at the end of a finely-balanced opening quarter. Kevin, Shay and Jake Power added points before half-time, but Emyvale maintained a narrow lead at 1-8 to 1-6. A much-improved performance after the restart saw Eoghan McGinnity, Shea Swift and Terence McDonald move us ahead by the water break, before Luke McManus came on to score an excellent goal. Further points from Croarkin (one from play!), Shea Swift and Terence secured a win on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-11. We are due to play at home to Latton in the semi-finals next Wednesday. U-15: Our U-15 teams had a busy few days between last Thursday and Sunday, playing three games, starting with a Division One fixture away to Clontibret. Goals by Jack Lynch and Dara Mullin and well-taken points by Ethan McCaffrey and Jack Kierans had our lads a point up at the end of an entertaining first half (2-5 to 1-7). Jack Lynch and Ethan added a string of scores in the third quarter and with Julian Coyle and James Gunn making an impact off the bench, Mark Lynch also finding the net and Diarmuid McGinnity and Kyle Cooney anchoring a strong defensive effort in front of Oisín McGeown, the Harps lads pulled away for a good win by 6-10 to 1-12.

Truagh were the visitors to Gavan Duffy Park on a sweltering Saturday afternoon. A series of scores by John McCrystal helped our lads lead by 1-7 to 1-6 at half-time, with Dara Mullin, Ethan McCaffrey and Julian Coyle also on target. John hit another brace of goals during the third quarter to maintain a narrow lead, but Truagh finished strongly to run out narrow winners on a scoreline of 4-15 to 4-11. Next up for our Division One team is a semi-final away to Castleblayney (details TBC). We wish Jack, Rhys and Daniel a speedy recovery from their injuries.

Subs used: Oisín Brannigan, Shane McGarry.

The conditions were similar on Sunday as our Division Five lads hosted Donaghmoyne. This was another entertaining game, where the momentum ebbed and flowed throughout. The likes of John Paul Ginley, Julian Coyle, Shane McGarry and Eoin Sheridan helped the Harps push ahead in the first half, but Donaghmoyne finished strongly to win by 2-14 to 3-8.

Please note that due to the U-13 game this Saturday morning, the juvenile coaching will move to the training pitch. This will also mean more traffic than usual, so please take care on entry to our grounds.

County: Good luck to the county senior and U-20 teams in their Ulster finals this weekend.

Sympathy: We send sincere sympathy to Martin, Bernadette, Seamus and Peter McKenna and family on the death of their sister, Mary Rafferty.

Club app: As well as offering an option to support our lotto, our club app also has a function to pay your annual membership, make financial donations to the club, as well as a communication suite for all that goes on at the club. You can get involved by downloading 'ClubZap' on your phone and registering as a Monaghan Harps GAA Club member.
